Gloom to Bloom (G2B)
If you say you haven’t been in a dark place before, then you’re simply not a human being. You’ve achieved permanent monk status. In the words of Borat, “Ha, NOT!” There are random incidents that happen that we cannot control. Examples of this would be death to a loved one, getting laid off from work, identity theft, car wreck due to someone driving under the influence, etc. You get the point. Our joy can be stripped from us if we don’t process our problems accordingly.
Work through the funk to be functional
Big problem for myself is the inability to keep my cool, and I know most people can relate. When Google maps would take me on a wild goose chase, or a train would be delayed, I would be so livid that my insides would tense up like my gut is making a fist. A wise woman I met serendipitously in lower Manhattan told me ,”If it’s out of your control, why let it anger you?” She gave me a book called “Compound Effect” by Darren Hardy. At first, I was like blah blah blah another self help book. But ultimately as I dove deeper, it tremendously helped compartmentalize my negative thoughts. It’s imperative we take those proactive steps to psychologically process the gobbledygook life throws at us. If you don’t read books, then listen to a podcast. If you don’t listen to podcasts, then go for a drive and listen to your favorite songs. If you don’t like music, then go see a psychiatrist. There’s always something out there that will help you cope with the calamity.
A question I ask everyday is, “How?” Actually, I ask many questions throughout the day, but I’m especially curious on how people prioritize and execute. How does one manage to have four companies, three kids and a healthy marriage? How does one remain poised under pressure when they carry so much weight on their shoulders? How does one become an expert at public speaking? Curiosity is a superpower. An abundance in clarity produces pure joy. When you keep asking the right questions, you will receive the right answers. Sorry if I’m sounding like an off brand Gandhi, but I personally know how much being confused and purposeless can alter your energy.
Gloom to bloom really derives from energy. What you consume and digest, determines whether you rise or digress. The grey matter in the evolution is specifically and masterfully designed for you. Basically, nobody has experienced what you have experienced. That’s why I believe mindfulness is a magic potion. The more you know yourself, the more you grow yourself. Bad energy comes in waves. The problem for most is the ineptitude to understand who to keep around.
Building sustainable and healthy habits require immense effort and time. Key word in that previous sentence is effort. Building effective routines require maximum effort and energy. A thousand mile journey begins with the first step. Everyone starts from the beginning. Everyone stumbles. Everyone makes massive mistakes. However, not everyone makes the decision to keep going. The ominous and gloomy feeling you have is not permanent. I encourage you to snap the cycle of stagnancy and sadness. Find that healthy alternative that gives you clarity amongst the confusion. It’s time to bloom and prosper. No more excuses.
